Northwell Health and Nassau Community College (NCC) have formed a partnership to support entry-level candidates and existing Northwell team members in jump-starting a career to become a Medical Assistant. This cohort program is designed for any eligible candidates to work as a Medical Associate at a designated Northwell site, while taking classes at NCC under the Medical Assistant Certificate program for one year. Northwell Health is providing a scholarship to our Medical Associates who participate in the Earn & Learn program. Upon successful completion, the team member will be promoted to a Medical Assistant position and commit to continuing their career journey at Northwell in this role for a minimum of one year.
Earn & Learn Medical Assistant Program overview:
As we serve our communities, we never lose sight of our team members and their career aspirations. We’re proud to offer a comprehensive cohort program, in partnership with Nassau Community College (NCC), to support entry-level professionals who are looking to become a Medical Assistant.
Commitment of this one-year certificate program includes a 4-day work week (8.5 hours per day) at a designated Northwell site, plus one full-day of in-person classes, two evening classes, and one Saturday morning class at NCC each week. This program is designed to provide you with onsite training as a paid Northwell Medical Associate employee, while you earn a Medical Assistant Certificate from NCC at no cost. Participants will work a modified schedule, enabling for the time needed for your studies while receiving support and guidance along your new Northwell career journey.
Upon program completion, each team member will work a 5-day (40 hour/week) schedule at Northwell Health. Learn more about medical assistant opportunities here.

Thank you for your interest but we are no longer accepting applications, as the response to this program was overwhelmingly positive and we have received such a high volume of qualified candidates. Eligibility requirements and program commitments*:
Our program is a paid, one-year training program for candidates who:
- Have earned a state-endorsed high school diploma or HSE/TASC (formerly GED certificate)
- Complete enrollment as a NCC student, including successful completion of NCC required placement exam (if applicable)
- Provide an employment commitment to work as a Medical Assistant at Northwell for at least one year, post Medical Assistant certificate program completion
*Team members that resign from Northwell during the one-year post graduation commitment period will be required to re-pay the cost of the Medical Assistant Certificate Program.
Each applicant can use the below steps as a guide throughout the Earn & Learn application process.
STEP 1: Submit your resume to apply for the Earn & Learn Medical Assistant Program above.
STEP 2: A Northwell Talent Acquisition team member may contact you, if qualifications are met, to set up an interview with one of our Northwell Hiring Managers.
STEP 3: Selected candidates will receive an email from our Northwell Talent Acquisition team with instructions for submitting the required application for admission to NCC, along with a direct NCC contact who will guide you through the final stages of the cohort program approval process.
STEP 4: An assigned NCC contact will help you schedule your one-hour virtual English and Writing placement exam (if applicable).
STEP 5: Acceptance letters will be sent out via email by our Northwell Talent Acquisition team to all chosen Earn & Learn Medical Assistant Program cohorts between Monday, November 7 through Wednesday, November 23.
